Second, make sure you're legit picking one strong combat skill (Guns, Energy Weapons, Explosives, Melee, Unarmed) and one strong tactile skill (speech, repair, lock pick, science, medicine). Don't feel cheap for using VATS to get killed early on either. But early on, its better safe than sorry. Eventually you get more confidence in your toughness and won't have to be so paranoid. VATS can often times detect something much farther away than you can see (or even invisible enemies you can't see right in front of you) and will help you approach every situation with more caution and strategy. So that being said there are a few tips and some quest guidance that veteran NV players can give to make your experience a lot easier and more enjoyable at the same time.įirst, to avoid getting mobbed by things you don't see or getting killed without being able to get shots in, get in to a habit of checking VATS while you're not in a town, even when you don't see any enemies on your compass. The game play starts to get easier and easier the more you play it, to the point where you lose sight of the fact that you were ever struggling. So, just keep that in mind if it gets frustrating. Its ok, New Vegas has a Damage Threshold system where you won't be able to hurt the more serious enemies until you start really leveling up. ![]()
